SCHOLARSHIP POLICY

The Hammoud Foundation will grant scholarships or educational assistance to qualified applicants interested in higher education, including but not limited to pursuing careers in science, medicine and health care based on the following criteria: 

 

  • The criteria used to determine eligibility for the program will be based on the receipt of a high school diploma, preferably with a 2.8 grade point average or better, with an interest in higher education, including but not limited to science, medicine and health care. 

 

  • Academic performance and financial need will be the major criteria for the selection.  In order to renew a grant/scholarship, the applicants must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.8 while taking a full course load at an accredited university or post-graduate program. 

 

  • No assistance will be made to the issue (and lineal descendants) of the officers, directors or members of the organization. 

 

  • Applicants will be solicited through advertising in medical and educational publications and via the internet and social media.

 

  • The Foundation will be supported by contributions from individuals and entities that share in the goals that the Foundation plans to accomplish.  At the present time, Dr. Yasser Hammoud is a Director of the organization and would be the substantial and primary contributor to the Foundation.     

 

  • The number of grants will not be limited.  It will be based on the amount of funds in the Foundation, plus the number of qualified applicants.

 

 

  • The Applicant must be of Lebanese desent or any other Middle Eastern desent is subject to board descretion.

 

  • The amount of the grants will be based upon the amount of funds in the Foundation, the number of qualified applicants, and the tuition and other expenses.  The maximum individual scholarship will be up to $5,000 annually and maximum will be $20,000 lifetime based on financial need and academic success. 

 

  • All scholarships shall be paid directly to the institution and may be for any of the following expenses: tuition, books, fees, room, board, etc.

 

  • The prerequisite for receiving/maintaining an educational scholarship or grant would be providing the Foundation with transcripts every semester to verify the required minimum grade point average.  If a transcript is not received within thirty (30) days of the end of the semester, the grant will not be extended for any future semesters.

                                                                                                         

  • The board of the scholarship foundation is Dr. Yasser Hammoud, Taysir Hammoud, Hon. Bilal Kabalan, Dr. Nouredine Saab, Jalil Saad, Prof. Tallal Turfe, Fouad Ashkar, Dr. Zane Hammoud and Souriana Hammoud, Esq.  They will serve voluntarily until such time as they no longer wish to serve on the board.  At that point, they will find a suitable replacement.

 

  • The Foundation Board shall have complete discretion with respect to granting any scholarship or educational assistance.

 

  • In addition, the Foundation will maintain the following records:

 

  • Year end and any periodic Treasurer’s financial report/statement;

 

  • All bank statements, canceled checks, check registers, and any other financial documents related to grants, loans, or distribution of funds;

 

  • Scholarship applications;

 

  • Scholarship recipient information, including names, addresses and school attending.

 

  • Selection committee records, including selection criteria used and other documentation regarding the selection process.
